Gillian Crosby

What job/study are you doing right now and tell us a little about it?

Currently a house wife and mother. I have done a number of jobs since I left school. I started out working for St. Helens Council, then in the building industry. Later I ran a monthly magazine and recently worked as an outreach worker for Helena Homes.

Did you do any further/higher education?

Yes I have a BSc with honours in Geoscience, Astro physics and Astro biology.

How did you decide on your career path and what is/was most interesting about your work?

I didn't. I kind of fumbled about and stumbled into things. Did things the hard way.

Can you share a couple of fond memories of your time at St Cuthbert's?

I was a member of the folk group, Tongues of Fire with Mr. Anderson. He wrote a musical based on the first 14 Acts of the Apostles, I got to be in the musical, we had a great time rehearsing, I learned a lot from Mr. Anderson.

Did you have a favourite/influential teacher? What made them so important to you?

I think Mr. Anderson. I had never met anybody like him before, he was vibrant and ambitious, but very religious, quite exotic to somewhere like Sutton or Parr in the 1980's. I have met other people like him since, and I have tried to be a positive person, who aspires to be, and do better. .

What advice would you give our current students?

Have fun, but use every opportunity that is handed to you. Be everything you can be. I didn't and ended up doing my degree whilst being a wife and mother and running a business at the same time. I put myself in hospital with exhaustion, this was not the best way.
