What job/study are you doing right now and tell us a little about it?
I am an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at Widnes Urgent Care Centre. I examine, diagnose and treat patients of all ages with a variety of conditions from coughs, throat infections to broken limbs and performing diagnostic tests such as bloods and ECG's. I love my job, no two days are the same and always busy. I am starting my non-medical prescribing course in April.
Did you do any further/higher education?
I did my nurse training then my diploma and went on to get my degree in community specialist practitioner BSc Hons and as said starting my prescribing soon
How did you decide on your career path and what is/was most interesting about your work?
I wanted to do something in healthcare and nursing looked rewarding. I made the right choice. I learn new things every day and love working with and helping the public
Can you share a couple of fond memories of your time at St Cuthbert's?
I enjoyed cuthies and am still best friends with the people I was at school. I played in the hockey team and we arranged a charity match against the teachers, who had to wear fancy dress. I will never forget Mr O'Neill dressed as a big pink rabbit hopping around the pitch
Did you have a favourite/influential teacher? What made them so important to you?
Miss Lally, I struggled with my comprehension exam, she worked on them with me for 3 months and got me through the exam and I got a grade C
What advice would you give our current students?
Whether you succeed at school or not you can be what you want with drive and determination
