Sophie Power

What job/study are you doing right now and tell us a little about it?

Throughout my time in school, my goal was to become a Police Officer. Unfortunately after I realised that University was not for me, I was stuck on what I wanted to do as a career. I now own my own business in Beauty and working for myself is the best decision I have ever made. I have developed skills that I know I would never have had if I had gone to University.

Did you do any further/higher education?

After school, I studied a BTEC LEVEL 3 EXTENDED DIPLOMA in Uniformed Public Services, which I passed with 3 Distinctions! After leaving Cronton College, I then went on and qualified as a Beautician, which I now intend to do more courses to widen my business.

How did you decide on your career path and what is/was most interesting about your work?

Owning my own business is something I never thought would happen. It was a long and hard journey to set up but I did it all by myself! I thrive on my job and will continue to become more and more successful. I love what I do now and would never go back on it.

Can you share a couple of fond memories of your time at St Cuthbert's?

I absolutely adored Sports Day and loved watching everyone come together as a House and have fun regardless of the weather.

Did you have a favourite/influential teacher? What made them so important to you?

Mr Graves, I was in his form from Year 8 until Year 10. The laughs we had with him and the way he is with his students left a mark on me! He is one of the most caring and lovely people I have ever met. He supported me through so much.

What advice would you give our current students?

If you have a goal in life, go for it! If somehow it doesn’t work out, don't give up, your time will come!
